Introduction
Welcome, readers, to Journey to Financial Independence (J2FI). J2FI is your ultimate guide to understanding the path toward the infamous idea of financial independence. Join me on this journey as I share my personal story and discuss the financial management practices utilized by the Financial Independence, Retire Early (FIRE) community.
Disclosure: Before we dive in, a crucial disclaimer – I am not a financial advisor. As you read my posts and potentially integrate some of these strategies into your life, I strongly suggest you conduct your own research. You may even want to consider consulting with a professional financial advisor before making substantial changes to your accounts and portfolios.
What to expect from J2FI: My mission with J2FI is to be brutally honest and transparent. I will discuss FIRE practices, and delve into a case study on my own journey, including specifics of my debt, exact amounts of money I have saved in different types of bank accounts, my approaches to investing, and how I plan to earn passive income to eventually attain FIRE. I will post roughly twice a month updating on:
- New financial management strategies: I attempt to explain financial management research into simplistic terminology. This includes investment strategies, how to optimize the taxes you pay on investments, frugal living and savings tips, and more.
- My financial independence journey: Including my budgeting, net worth, and anything else relevant to my finances.
- Inspiring stories: Posting the stories of others working towards FIRE and how they did it.
- Additional income streams: Practical advice on how to start earning passive/secondary income streams.
As stated earlier, I am starting this blog as somebody that is just starting the FIRE journey. Thus, I do not have all the answers, as I am new to this myself. I will make some mistakes along the way. I intend to update my posts as much as I can to ensure accurate information is provided, and make all my readers aware of the mistakes to avoid.
You might be wondering: Why is someone new to learning about financial independence creating a blog to track their progress, which may not even end in fruition?
Well, you're allowed to doubt me. Doubt is good in the world of finance. However, I created this blog for one reason: I read and listen to many different tales of people discussing how they achieved financial independence, but everything is always so vague, and they use all sorts of complex terminology that can be difficult to understand.
Most stories I hear discuss someone achieving FIRE by starting a random online business and making millions off it, investing, and living off the investments. To the average person, this just seems so unattainable and unrealistic, and so many steps are skipped informing the audience on how those millions were made. By tracking my journey and research, this blog will hopefully act as a source for others to follow to see exactly how this journey to financial independence happens, and have a fully transparent and honest log/history of how financial independence is achieved with specific strategies explained in simplistic terminology readily available to consider. I hope these posts show that anyone can become financially independent and escape the corporate 9-5, even if you aren't a high-earner.
This blog isn't just a one-way street; it's a thriving community of like-minded individuals supporting each other on the quest for financial independence. I encourage you to share your thoughts, questions, and experiences in the comments section. Let's learn from each other and grow together.
Navigating the financial frontier with you. Until next time, stay savvy!
Cheers,
J2
